This summer we've often seen a bald eagle flying outside our kitchen window, over the small lake near our house. It is an enormous, majestic, awesome bird. One of those sights that takes your breath away...
...until it makes a sound. Somehow, it's cry seems... wimpy. In fact, if I didn't know it was an eagle, I'd think it was a much smaller bird!
As a follower of Jesus, I have His enormous power at my disposal. The power of prayer. The power of His Truth and wisdom. The power of His love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, self-control. The power that is in His church, which is His body on this earth, power to transform a hurting world.
But I wonder how often I - and we - sound wimpy. We forget HIS power, and rely on our own. Or worse... we rely on the power of this world to get our message across. We forget the source of our true power and we only sound out a little chirp.
Even though the eagle's cry is not a roar, I don't think eagles forget their power. But do we?
"Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." (Isaiah 41:31).
