Last night we hosted a "Taste of Alpha" as an introduction to the Alpha course (a 10 week course in Christianity). We had a mix of new people, as well as people who have been through the course. One of the people who came is someone who has been coming to Alpha for over a year, as an "agnostic." With an atheistic background, he watched every video with skepticism. I wondered why he kept coming. At one point I asked and he said: "If you keep feeding me, I'll come." Okay...
Last night we had a new person, who has no religious background whatsoever. He wanted to know if he would truly be welcomed. I introduced him to one of our guys who 2 years ago came as a skeptic, and took almost a year before deciding to follow Jesus. Then I introduced him to this guy who has been coming to Alpha for a year, and asked him to define himself (expecting him to say "agnostic"). Instead, he told us that he'd decided to follow Jesus about a week ago.
You never know when God will use a video... or food... or a quiet moment alone to reveal Himself to someone! I love God's surprises...
