Hummingbirds
Did you know that the tiny hummingbird (3 inches, 2-3 grams, 1/5 the weight of a chickadee) flaps it's wing 50-60 times per SECOND, breathes 250 times a minute, and has a heart that beats 1,260 times a minute? (No, I'm not an ornithologist, but I do own a bird book!). This year we've put up a feeder on our kitchen window, and another one on our deck. We regularly are visited by the ruby-throated variety. Beautiful. Tiny. Amazing. Able to fly frontwards, backwards, and hover. When you are close, you can hear their wings. And each time I get to see one up close... I hold my breathe a bit in wonder... and I thank God for His amazing creativity... and thank Him that He shares His beauty and creativity to me in such small, wonderful way!
Superintendent (overseeing some wonderful pastors and churches), adventurer, writer, spiritual director, strategist, and occasional thrower of pots (on the wheel, not across the room)! Married to a wonderful guy named Marshal.
