Little Adventures

If you know me, you know that I can be a bit... driven. Focused. So focused on the future that I lose sight of the present. My husband, Marshal, is thankfully someone that is far better at enjoying the journey. (Literally... when we travel, he even likes to stop and read all those little historical markers by the side of the road). Being married to him, I've come to better appreciate the adventure of the moment.

This past weekend, we were on the road to Annual Conference (a regional meeting of pastors). In one sense, we were on a "business trip" for me (although I do really enjoy Annual Conference, it still wouldn't be considered a vacation!). But we ended up making the weekend into an adventure. We took the long way home. We stopped at an out-of-the-way greenhouse that had lots of new varieties of plants (yes, we bought more plants). We enjoyed the scenery. And yes, we even took in a few historical markers. When we got tired we pulled into a McDonald's parking lot for the free wi-fi, and booked a hotel room for the evening.

When I look at Jesus, I see someone who, while He always knew where He was heading (in every sense), He also knew how to enjoy the journey. He knew that "interruptions" were actually opportunities for God to show up. He took time to get away and rest.

There are many things I want to see happen with The Loop this summer. But I need to remember that summer is a great season to sit back and enjoy the adventure and the journey...
