Over the past few weeks (2 of which were "spring break week" for our college students), our Alpha groups have been quite... varied... in attendance. Yesterday we were back to two functioning groups, with a total of 7 of us split between the two groups.
When I told my Superintendent, who has been praying for us, about some of the weeks when we had people "disappear", he likened doing ministry with college students to herding cats. Consistent attendance isn't a priority for most students. Finals? Can't come. Spring Break? Can't come. Nice weather? Well, you know...
I laughed at the picture of the impossibility of herding cats. But then I wondered... is it really herding cats or herding sheep? Cats do things on their own. But this group travels in packs. When the pack is straying, off they all go. When the pack is headed in the right direction, you can breathe a sigh of relief.
Makes me wonder... where can I get a sheep dog?
