I know... at most churches, on Easter you expect to wear your Easter best, sing the grandest songs, bring in more tradition than normal. But at The Loop? We'll have a meal together like normal (although this one will be breakfast), then talk about what Jesus' resurrection does for us (theme for the morning: the freedom Jesus brings), then we'll have an easter egg hunt for the kids. Maybe we'll listen to a song or two on my ipod. Most of us will probably be in blue jeans.
I know that's not a traditional Easter service, at least not the way tradition has been in any church where I've been before. At the same time, it reminds me of that first Easter... when Jesus appeared alive to the disciples, and asked them for something to eat. A meal was an integral part of that first Easter celebration... as was sitting around, asking questions, taking in the miracle of the resurrection. (Luke 24)
We may not have a brass band or a choir next week when we celebrate... but we don't need that to take in the miracle of the resurrection!
