Free Methodist Women & Haiti

Every day since the Haiti earthquake, I check our denominations website for updates (www.helphaitiheal.org). This morning, I read a blog from Linda Adams, who heads up our Childcare program (over 8,000 children are sponsored, and we have over 50 schools... many of these schools have now become places where crowds of people are staying). Linda asked for prayer that today she would be able to somehow get tents for people... particularly the children... to protect them from getting cold at night (please pray! The funds are there, but the tents are nowhere to be found). Yesterday, I saw a video of Delia Nuesch-Olver (who oversees our Latin America missions) in Haiti, meeting and planning with pastors in the remains of one of our churches / schools. Just a few minutes ago, I read a "tweet" from our well-drilling team that is down there... good news, they have found water at the US Embassy, equipment is being flown in, and a well should soon be drilled. It dawned on me that this well-drilling ministry started out of a church in Ohio, pastored by Brenda Young. When I remembered that, I realized that three of our women pastors (Linda, Delia, and Brenda) have made a substantial contribution to the relief efforts. I have met all three of these outstanding women of God. I am SO thankful that I am in a denomination with a long history of encouraging women in ministry! (How would the relief efforts in Haiti be different if they were not?).
