While the economy is going down the tubes and people are in a panic, I received an email from the leaders in my denomination (Free Methodist) asking us to fast and pray on October 1 for our brothers and sisters in India. Christians there are under severe persecution from fanatical Hindus. Many have lost their homes, some have lost their lives. Churches are scattered. There is great need!
Reading their email, I'm reminded of all that I have here, no matter what happens to the economy and stock market. And in that, I'm reminded that in the "economy of God" I'm to share what I have... even in times of uncertainty. I had a bottle of change sitting on my bureau, and yesterday I went to the bank, put it in the change machine, and now I'm writing a check to send to help those in India. Somehow, giving to those who have significantly less makes me feel less anxiety about our own economy and reminds me of God's ultimate control.
