I'm someone who naturally likes things to make sense. And be under control.
But there's this pesky piece of Christianity that sometimes doesn't make sense, and is never under control.
It's The Holy Spirit. And it's not some minor doctrine that you can sweep under the rug. He's one person of the Godhead. And He does this pesky thing that has traditionally been called "promptings."
"Promptings" are ideas that get in your head that seem to come from The Spirit. How do you know they come from Him and not from you? The answer to that could be a LONG paper (or book!) but the short answer is: The more you get to know Him, the more you get to know His voice. You still have to do alot of gut checking, and holding things loosely. I'm not someone who goes around saying: "God told me"! But I have learned to say: "I think God is telling me...".
So here I sit, with what seems to be a "prompting" to write. Actually, this "prompting" has been around for a few years. And I try to pay attention to it. But the reality is that there's LOTS in my life that chases out the writing. Lots of good things. Lots of God things. And taking time to write in the midst of these good things and God things... sometimes doesn't make sense.
But the promptings continue....
November is National Novel Writing Month (nanowrimo.org). And once again, I'm following the promptings to work on another novel. This time, it's about those women from Exodus 38 (see the last blog entry). I'm behind. I should be to almost 14,000 words (on my way to 50,000 by the end of the month), but I've got less that 7,000. And there are lots of reasons to set the writing aside. I have too much to do!
But there are those non-sensical promptings....
