40 days. It's an important number throughout the Bible. Jesus was in the wilderness for 40 days. It rained for 40 days when Noah was in the ark. And... Joshua and Caleb and the other "spies" went and "explored the land" for 40 days.
It's this last mention of 40 days that has my interest right now. Last week, when I realized it was 40 days until Easter, I started looking up all the "40 days" in the Bible. And "explore the land" is what got stuck in my head.
You see... we're at a place where we really have no idea what's ahead... in SO many ways. Just like the Israelites had no idea what was ahead of them in the 'promised land.' So what did they do? They wisely spent 40 days exploring the possibilities ahead. And what are we doing? We're looking at possibilities. Every possibility that seems to come our way. And we're asking... how might God be at work here?
We still don't have an answer to that... except: I want to be like Joshua and Caleb, ready to go and do whatever God wants us to do. I don't want to be like the Israelites who turned and ran. Pray with me that we'll choose the Joshua way...
