The Big Story

This past Sunday, at a meeting with some of our Loop folks, I asked a question:  What's a movie that you've loved, that has really connected with you in some way?

Braveheart.  Shawshank Redemption.  Apollo 13.  The Lord of the Rings.  Saving Private Ryan.  Titanic.

Okay... why?   The answer that seemed common to all of us, was that these movies speak to our hearts, whispering the truth that there is... something more.  That we are created with purpose.  (As an engineer who loved Apollo 13 said:  "regular old engineers got to save the day!").  These movies remind us that we can be 'heroes' in the grand story of life.  The struggles that we face are really about so much more.

Which led us to the next part of the discussion.  God has put this desire to be part of something bigger in our hearts.  He's created us with greater purpose.  But do we see it?  Do we know it?  Do we live as if we are truly part of 'The Big Story' and that we have a crucial role to play?  Or do we get stuck in the humdrum of life, never hearing the whisper to be... something more?

Today?  Listen to that whisper.  There is more.  Much more.
