Spiritual Practices

This summer, we've combined our two "post-Alpha" groups so that we can meet together for "Spiritual Training." (This is the group that met at Cici's Pizza last week... this week we met at our house. A MUCH saner option). Each week, we've talked about spiritual practices that a person can do, in order to make room for the workings of God in their life. Last week, we talked about "Simple" practices (Sabbath, quiet, worship, thanks, celebration). I gave everyone a sheet with a list of practices, and told them to try one or two. When we met this week, a number of people had tried one or two of the practices... and for some of them, they had a new sense of God because of it. This week, our practices involve the "side-by-side" aspects of our life... being in community with others, speaking the truth in love, resolving conflict and asking for forgiveness, sharing honestly. (If you notice a pattern of words that begin with "s", understand that these practices are being organized around our core values, that all begin with "s"). Next week, we'll talk about practices related to Scripture. I love it when people experience God - perhaps in a new way, or for the first time - and so I've greatly enjoyed teaching these practices to this group.
