I've been praying for our 3rd Alpha class to start before winter is out (one past Alpha class has become a Loop Team, one is still meeting as an Alpha class, and I've been praying for a new one to start. Alpha is a 12 week intro to Christianity). I had no idea how this 3rd class would start... didn't know who to invite. But I've been praying, asking God to bring me a new group.
I'm teaching this Humanities class at a local college. One of the assignments that I give students is to go to something "religious" outside their own experience, and to do a write up on it. I've always mentioned The Loop as an option, but just in passing. This time, I had two students ask me if they could come to "my church" (they know I'm a pastor). We opened up our current Alpha class (all college students) to anyone from my class who would like to come, and our original group agreed to go back to lesson #1 so people could get a taste of the Alpha program. Today at lunch 4 new students came. Three of them would like to join a new group which will start next week! As far as I know, none of the 3 are church goers. And so... our third Alpha class starts (with a wide invitations to others to join us!). Interestingly, the group figured out how to make it work so that this group meets first, then has lunch together with the original group, then the original group meets.
I LOVE it when I see God at work in ways that are completely beyond me. Thank you to those who are on my prayer team, and have been praying with me for this!
