If you, like me, are watching the stories of heartache and tragedy coming out of Haiti, and are wanting to DO something, I'd encourage two things:
First, pray. Pray for rescue workers. Pray for people working on getting emergency supplies in. And pray for God's people... that His Spirit would be working in them and through them as they work, grieve, struggle, reach out.
Second, give. Find some good organization that really does help. If you aren't connected to one, I have a recommendation. Our denomination (Free Methodist) has many churches in Haiti. We have something called the "Bishop's Famine Relief Fund" which wires 100% of the money received to the places that need it, to trustworthy people in church who can immediately use it or distribute it. Send it to: Board of Bishops P.O. Box 535002 Indianapolis, IN 46253 (more info at: http://www.freemethodistchurch.org/sections/leadership/bishops/bfrf/home.shtml).
Lord Jesus, hear our prayer. Bring strength, comfort, power, healing, wisdom, resources. May Your people respond to the needs of the world...
