Last week in my Humanities class, I was teaching on the "Florentine Masters" of the Renaissance... Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael. As I was finishing up with these three, a voice from the back of the class piped up: "What about Donatello?" A chorus arose: "Yeah, what about Donatello?"
"You know about Donatello?" I asked, for a moment stunned that my class would know about all four of these artists from the Renaissance.
"Yeah, he was the fourth ninja turtle." Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael & Donatello were the names of the cartoon turtles that were popular when my students were growing up. Not exactly what I had in mind when I launched into the Renaissance. Still... if it helps them remember these artists names... I found photos of Donatello's work, and we completed the foursome!
And this makes me wonder... what kinds of things has God put into our memory banks that can aid us in understanding spiritual truth?
