What do you want to do?

Last night at our "Loop" meeting, we were talking about "yielding control" to God, and we discussed the fear: "What if God asks me to... go to Africa?" My response was that, most often, God wants to use us right where we are. And IF He wants us to go to Africa, He'll usually give US the desire as well.

Then today, I was meeting with my Spiritual Director. I was talking about how right now I feel like I have too many "plates spinning" (meaning, I have too many very different / unrelated things going on in my life). The Loop. Teaching at the local college. Being a Spiritual Director (and finishing up training for this). Writing. Denominational responsibilities. Serving on a non-profit's board. Plus... LIFE stuff. With all of these different things, many days it's hard for me to know what to focus on... or what to subtract or add. We talked through alot of this, and at the end of our time, she said (almost as an afterthought): "Could it be that God simply is allowing you to - each day - decide what you WANT to do?"

"What is it you want?" That's a question Jesus asked on occasion. Yes, that's what I need to be doing each day now. "What do I WANT to do today?" and trusting that as my life is yielded to God, that God is directing my "want."
