Committees

I hate committees. Somehow, I ended up "chairing" the "landscaping committee" for our neighborhood. Simple, right? Get a contract to take care of the gardens. But no, not simple. Suddenly a very simple thing becomes very complex when everyone has a say. It's not that I mind everyone "having a say"... it's just that the nature of committees is that it's a group of people making decisions that OTHER people have to follow through on.

I wonder what would have happened if Jesus had to report to a committee. One person would have told Him that He couldn't leave town... after all, there was still plenty to do at home. Another person would have told Him that He had to make their nephew an apostle, even if he wasn't the right person. Another would have reprimanded him for the way he treated his family. Still another would have been making plans for Jesus to take a world tour and go to the Roman world. I am positive that if Jesus had worked with a committee, He would never have died on the cross, and Christianity would never have been born.

With The Loop, we won't have committees. Teams, yes. Committees, no. Teams are places where people make decisions together, as well. But then those people have to carry through what they decide - no one else. Empowered decision making. It makes all the difference.
