Marshal and I just got back from a week in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. We stayed on a small island that had no running water (other than a hand pump in the "main cabin") and no electricity (but it did have some solar batteries that allowed every cabin to have one light over the bed. It also had a propane stove and refrigerator in the main cabin). The weather was gorgeous, and we had a great time (we're still sorting, cleaning, and freezing the wild blueberries that we picked!).
Having said that, I have to tell you... a hot shower and a flush toilet is a wonderful thing!!! And after a week without, it seems like quite a luxury. Makes me think about how many things we take for granted that other generations, or people in other parts of the world, would think are incredibly luxurious. Electricity, cars, phones, fruit in winter, air-conditioning in summer, enough clothes to have clean ones every day, enough food that you're never hungry, a stable government, a computer (!), and the list goes on, and on, and on...
Today thank God for all those "luxuries"!!

When I first read your blog, I thought to myself, how nice it would be to be alone with Thomas (no kids allowed)for a week. NO BLACKBERRY!!! I think we are are so busy in our everyday lives that we don't get to spend enough one on one time together. Time to talk about our future hopes and dreams, what values we want our children to grow with and pass along to their children. To stay in bed past 7am with no "Mommy, I'm hungry or can I watch cartoons". To read a book start to finish, I haven't done that in years. Nap...whatever I wanted!! I love to be outside, I find that when I'm out walking...I talk to God, sometimes even outloud. I find peace by being surronded by all the beauty He created!! To hold hands and even steal a kiss without our teenager being grossed out by such an act of affection!!
Wow, what a vacation that would be...even with no power or running water.
But for now, we are "hooked up" here in Minnesoat and are as busy as ever!! Life is good, Jesus is even better!!
I would like the name of where you went...maybe in a few years I could suprise Thomas and take him away to get un-plugged from the world and reconnect with me. On second thought I'd have to warn him first...I'm not sure if he could handle it.
