We were in San Antonio Texas this past week, and visited The Alamo. I have to confess, I really didn't know much of the history of this place until we visited. What struck me the most? That about 200 people would knowingly put their lives on the line (and die) for one thing... FREEDOM.
Freedom is something that runs deep in our American soul. In the case of the Alamo, it was freedom from a Mexican dictator (Santa Anna).
What would happen if we were as committed to finding spiritual freedom as the defenders of the Alamo were committed to gaining freedom from Mexico? What if we wanted freedom from the chains that hold us back from all God has for us... selfishness, addictions, greed, bitterness, anger, comfort... as much as those at the Alamo? What if we'd be willing to "take a stand" in such a way that we wouldn't be satisfied with anything short of internal spiritual freedom?
Just as the battle at The Alamo changed the U.S.... I think we'd change the world.
