When the Christian Church was just starting out, the leadership was having a tough time understanding that God was actually interested in people who were outside Judaism... that is until the "Cornelius experience." Cornelius was a Roman soldier searching for God. God told him where he could go find Peter (as in, The Apostle Peter) and that Peter would explain the rest. When the servants of Cornelius arrived on Peter's doorstep (in the middle of a vision about getting outside the boundaries of Judaism, no less!), Peter still wasn't too sure about this... but he went. When Peter arrived at the home of Cornelius, he found a crowd of people had gathered to hear what he had to say. BAM! The Holy Spirit showed up, the "gentile" church started, and the rest is history.
Right now in church planting, I'm praying for a Cornelius Experience... a group of people waiting for someone to lead the way to start a new kind of "gentile" church reaching those on the outside. Our small group continues to invite people... but we need more than the few of us. Will you pray with me for a Cornelius Experience for The Loop? Thanks.
