I'm blogging from Maryland, from Shalem. Something I have been fascinated by, in both the readings and in the conversation... because we are from such diverse branches of Christianity, I end up needing to "translate" on a regular basis. For example: A Catholic theologian wrote an article on "conversion"... but what he calls conversion, I would call "transformation" (or, the more theological word: sanctification). "Receiving Christ" "Christian Tradition" and even "grace" are all defined differently in our different branches. SO... to make sure I understand what people are saying, and to make sure that they know what I am saying, I have to clarify, clarify, clarify! Sometimes, when we think we are saying the same thing, we are really saying very different things. But even more often, when we think we are on "opposite pages" once we "watch our language" we discover we agree!
It makes me wonder... if we all REALLY understood each other... would we agree or disagree more often?
