While I was away getting training at Shalem, we had a 38 hour period of silence. During that time, I specifically started paying attention to thoughts that would come bouncing into my head. I was amazed at how much of the "brain traffic" was negative: "Oops, should have done this... rats, shouldn't have done that... oh, that was stupid... why can't I do this..." None of the "shoulda, woulda, coulda" talk was about important stuff... just stupid little things (like when I dragged a chair across the floor and it made lots of noise in the "silence").
In stark contrast to that brain traffic, I was studying Romans 8 which begins "there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." Whoa. Does God really love me so much that He DOESN'T do the "shoulda woulda coulda" stuff? You bet. And Romans 8 goes to on to tell me more of the incredible ways God loves me.
Want to hear more? I'll be speaking this coming Sunday at Cedarcrest in Bloomington, 10 a.m. See you there! :-)
