For many years I never thought I'd marry. I didn't think I'd ever meet the guy who - on the one hand - was a strong and secure individual that I'd respect, and - on the other hand - celebrated and encouraged me and my strengths. As a strong first-born leader-woman, I found too many men who either wanted me to take care of them, OR who wanted to "tame" me. NOPE. I was called to ministry, called to lead, and I knew I needed to listen to God on this one.
But Marshal? God surprised me with him. He's a guys-guy. Hunts, fishes, love and works in the outdoors. He speaks his mind, doesn't hesitate to take a stand (he, too, is a first-born). There is no way I'd be able to "run over" him. At the same time, he's my biggest cheerleader and supporter. He tells me to "go for it" when I'm in doubt. He has never, out of his own insecurity or need to be "macho," held me back. And - bonus! - he loves to cook!
Sometimes I am in awe that God brought us together - in many ways an unlikely pair. But how grateful I am!
Happy Birthday, hon. You are a gift to me! I love you.
