The lilacs and lily of the valley are late this year. The lilacs just started blooming yesterday, and the lily of the valley still haven't popped. Do you know how I know this is "late"?
Because five years ago tomorrow, Marsh and I were married. We had lilac and lily of the valley on all the tables at the reception. What a beautiful fragrance! And what a great celebration. And five years ago, we were afraid our date was too late for the lilacs and lily of the valley (it was close!).
Our wedding day was a great day (called "the best party they've ever attended" by some of our friends!)... but it was only a beginning to what's been a great marriage. I love the guy more now than I did five years ago (and I loved him alot then!). Our wedding focused so much on our Lord... not just through the vows, but through the music, prayers, and message as well. I know that continuing that focus has given us a deep bond. "A cord of three strands (husband, wife, God) is not easily broken."
If you live in a part of the world that has the lilacs or the lily of the valley blooming, stop and smell their fragrance (it's heavenly!) and let it remind you of all the gifts of God in your life. For us, one of His great gifts is five years of a great marriage!
